Web Developer
I have done web development off and on since August of 2007. I started by designing a website for a story I am writing, and the site can be viewed here. I also designed and built a website for Language of Dance Studio, at www.languageofdancestudio.com.
I am building this site to practice learning HTML and CSS coding. As such, a lot of what you will see will look amateurish and not very well done. Eventually, I would like to be able to create a site for aspiring web developers (like me!) to practice raw coding and post their work for review and critique. Such a site is, at the moment, far beyond my skill level.
Once I master HTML, I plan to learn ASP and Javascript. At the moment, I am doing this on my own time, although I probably will be taking a web development course sometime in the next year. For the longest time, I was afraid of learning HTML, because I thought it would be too difficult, and I am not very gifted with languages. Granted, I haven't learned very much about it yet, but so far the basic coding is turning out much easier then I thought it would.
I am learning HTML from tutorials off of www.htmlcodetutorials.com. At first I found the site a little difficult to navigate, but once I learned how it's set up, I'm finding it very useful.
In additon to HTML, I'm including CSS coding in the HTML. CSS allows me to create HTML tags with certain attributes. For example, in this text that I'm typing right now, I have one CSS tag that tells the font color to be dark blue, the font size to be 12 point, the text to align right, and the font family to be Comic Sans MS. Using that one tag is much simpler then using HTML tags for all of those attributes.
But I'm rambling, and probably far more advanced web developers then me are going to be reading this and shaking their heads going "This guy has no idea what he's talking about." So I'll shut up, and let what I just said stand against what I learn as my skills increase.
